SUNBUCKS
SUN Bucks: Summer Food Support for California Families
SUN Bucks is California’s Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program designed to help families with school-age children purchase groceries during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. This program is operated by the California Department of Social Services.
How It Works
- Benefit Amount: Eligible children receive a total of $120 for the summer, distributed as $40 per month for June, July, and August.
- Usage: Benefits are loaded onto a SUN Bucks EBT card, which functions like a debit card and can be used at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other retailers that accept CalFresh EBT benefits.
- Validity: Funds must be used within 122 days of being loaded onto the card. Unused benefits will expire after this period.
Eligibility
Most children are automatically enrolled if they:
- Receive benefits from CalFresh, CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal
- Are in foster care, experiencing homelessness, attending Head Start, or considered a runaway.
Children not automatically enrolled can apply by submitting a Universal Benefits Application to the Food Service Department by September 1, 2025.
Come by the Food Service Office to get a Universal Benefits Application at 1360 Menlo Ave. Napa, CA 94558 from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm or call us at 707-253-3541.
No online application available at this time
Additional Information
- No Impact on Other Benefits: Participation in SUN Bucks does not affect eligibility for CalFresh or any other public benefit program.
- Immigration Status: Receiving SUN Bucks will not impact a family’s immigration status.
- Support: For assistance, contact the SUN Bucks helpline at (877) 328-9677, available 24/7 with live agents on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.M
